THE BUYI VILLAGE

With a population of 55,000, the Buyi minority people of Yunnan Province mostly live in compact communities in 10-plus counties of Yunnan’s municipalities, which include Qujing Wenshan and Honghe prefectures. The ethnic origin of the Buyi minority might be traced to the ancient Baiyue tribe, and it had once been referred to as the “Xieman” or “Zhongjia” people, who become a component of the “Luoyue People” of the Baiyue Family. The Buyi people mostly engage in farming and adopt the lunar calendar. Advantageous natural conditions of the Buyi-inhabited areas have helped yield plentiful products. The Buyi people have their own spoken language, whereas the Chinese characters are widely adopted as their written language. The Buyi people boast booming literatures, and they have well developed singing and dancing. Those Buyi people worship their primitive religion that claims “All things on earth have souls and the world is dominated by many gods.”The typical festival of those concept is called “The Local God Worshiping Fastival” which on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month.

The Buyi Village is constructed by water. Being replicas of folk dwellings of the Buyi people, the two Buyi-style houses are deemed as the perfect integration of the “Qionglong-Style” houses with the wood-board houses. Dotted with waterside pavilions, corridors and winding paths, the Buyi Village has been praised to have distilled the romance of ethnic folk houses while demonstrating renovated gardening landscapes.
