The Bulang people has a population about 90,000 and they mainly live in compact communities in the mountainous or hilly areas in western Yunnan or along the two sides of the lower reaches of the Lancangjiang River in the south of Yunnan Province.
The Bulang Village has been costructed with the Wa Village to form a composite village cluster in Yunnan Nationalities Village. It is consisted of architectures like the Village Gate, Folk House and the “Square of Ghosts and Gods”.
The “Square of Ghosts and Gods” reflects the Bulangs’ concept that natural worship of animism. The Bulangs’ totems are erected in the center of the square. The square is also an important venue for the Bulangs to hold sacrificial offering ceremonies, singing and dancing gala parties and other group activities.
