The Torch Festival
Celebrated from the 24th to the 26th day in the 6th lunar month
this festival is the traditional celebration for the Yi, Bai, Naxi, Lahu and Hani minorities and the Pumi people.
The objective of the Festival is to worship fire, which might not only expel ghosts in their homes and farmlands, but also bring peace to humans and their livestock. During the festival days, youngsters would light pine-wood torches.
Other festivities include singing, dancing, horse-racing, bull fighting and wrestling. On the bonfire carnival, the joyous activities would last all night.
