Folk Village
Tour Yunnan starts from Yunnan Nationalities Village
The Muslim Village

With a gross population of about 650,000, Yunnan’s Hui (Muslim) people inhabit almost all Yunnan prefectures, municipalities and counties, and the Muslim residences show features of “overall dispersion and localized concentration”, and “inhabitance in compact communities around the mosques”. In the cities, their homes cluster on a number of streets, whereas in the rural areas, their homes form Muslim villages. Overwhelmingly, the Muslim population in Yunnan Province cluster along major roads, or in basins, valleys, towns and cities. In the previous historical periods, ancestors of Yunnan Muslims migrated to Yunnan from the Arab countries, Central and Western Asian areas, or Central and Northwestern China regions. The Muslims worship Islamism, strictly abide by the Islamic doctrines and creeds, follow the holy teachings of the Koran, and routinely exercise the “Five Islamic Services”, and these have forged the unique Muslim folk customs and traditions. Major architectures of the Muslim Village in the Nationalities Village include houses, a mosque and a Muslim Street, among which are gardens and horticultural art works. Such composition has provided a miniature panorama showing the layout, styles and overall characteristics of Yunnan’s Muslim architectures.
